Descendants of William Norman,
A Revolutionary War Soldier

This site contains the ancestors and descendants of William Norman, a Revolutionary War soldier of Virginia, who migrated to Lincoln County, Georgia after the Revolutionary War. William was the grandson of Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney of Virginia through their son, Joseph.  This site will trace William’s descendants from Virginia to Georgia and beyond.

My name is Paula Perkins. I am descended from William through his daughter Susannah. If you are a descendant of Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney, your input and information will be gratefully accepted. If you have a Norman web site, please allow me to link to your site and feel free to link to this one. I will try to include links to as many Norman sites as I can find. A very special appreciation goes to my cousin Liz Nash who created the first website and much of her research and family information can be found on this website, cousin Linda Anthony family genealogist and historian and other Norman family descendants that have contributed information for the website.

The Norman Family Association, Georgia Division is an organization of William Norman of Virginia descendants There is a Norman family reunion every two years in Lincoln County, Georgia. The next reunion is scheduled for 2023.  While the Association is primarily composed of the descendants of William Norman, all branches of the Isaac Norman and Frances Courtney line are invited to attend the reunion and to join our Norman Family Association. Dues are $7.50 per year and includes the family newsletter which is issued in February, June and October. The Association fiscal year is August 1 to July 31.

If you wish to join the Norman Family Association, have any suggestions, information to share or constructive criticisms, please email me.

If you have submissions for the Newsletter, email the information here. Please feel free to share all information of interest to members of the Norman family. We especially need death notices, births and anecdotes of Norman descendants. If anyone has an interesting story about their Norman ancestor, please share it.

The Norman DNA Project

The Norman families have started a DNA project to determine scientifically how the various Norman may or may not be related. It is very exciting to see some of the results. We do need more Norman males with the last name of Norman who would be willing to participate. For details of cost and method, contact me. We have several direct descendants participate. If you have taken a genetic genealogy dna test with other companies results can be transferred to the project. Many of the testers list their earliest known male as Eli Norman. DNA testing will be beneficial to prove our connections to both the maternal and paternal lineages of our Norman family. Be sure to check both sites.
